Novel Gene Therapy to Treat DFNB8/DFNB10 Mutations in Older Mice

Novel gene therapy offers hope for hearing loss associated with ageing

In the US, one third of adults aged between 64 and 75 suffer from age-related hearing loss. Around half of this number is due to genetics.

This type of hearing loss is also extremely difficult to treat because it involves a complex genetic toolkit.

Researchers have for the first targeted age-related hearing loss in a cohort of older mice that had a mutation in the human transmembrane serine protease gene (TMPRSS3), which results in autosomal dominant deafness (DFNB8/DFNB10).
