OpenAI has formed a new team in order to control’superintelligent AI’
OpenAI has formed a new team, led by Ilya Suksever, the company’s chief scientist and co-founder, to find ways to control and steer \”superintelligent AI\” systems.
In a blog published today, Sutskever, and Jan Leike a leader on the alignment team of OpenAI, predicted that AI intelligence surpassing that of humans would arrive within a decade. Sutskever, and Leike, say that this AI, if it ever does arrive, won’t be benign, and will require research to find ways to restrict and control it.
They write: \”At the moment, we do not have a way to control or steer a superintelligent AI and prevent it from becoming rogue.\” Our current methods for aligning AI rely on the ability of humans to supervise AI. Humans will not be able reliably to supervise AI systems that are much smarter than we.
