Polymorphism: A Defense against Automated Attacks on Websites
Year 2014
PolyRef is a polymorphic method of defense against automated attacks on web-based applications. Many websites are susceptible to automated attacks. Turing tests are ineffective and have a negative impact on the usability and accessibility of protected applications. PolyRef is motivated by the observation of how many automated attacks are based on interactions with code that’s visible to the public and transmitted to the browser. This makes machine automation impossible to implement. We categorize threats that depend on automation, and we discuss the anti-automation methods available. We describe two ways to use polymorphism against automation.
