Positive Aging Beliefs and Cognitive Decline

Researchers Say that staying positive about aging may help reverse cognitive decline

Researchers found that those with positive age beliefs had a 30% higher chance of recovering from cognitive impairment compared to those with negative age beliefs. This was true regardless of the severity or decline in cognitive function. Positive age belief also accelerated the recovery time.

The researchers also found that participants who were positive about ageing had a lower risk of mild cognitive impairment after 12 years.

Memory loss is generally believed to be irreversible. A new study suggests that people who accept aging in a positive way may be able to recover from cognitive decline.

The cognitive decline of older adults is characterized by difficulties in thinking, memory and concentration. Cognitive impairment can occur suddenly or progress slowly with age.
