Rejuvenating the Immune System: Prolonged Fasting Triggers Regeneration of Damaged Cells

Stem cell regeneration is triggered by fasting in damaged immune systems
Fasting database:

Recreates immune system ;… Prolonged fasting forces your body to use up its stores of fat, glucose and ketones. It also causes a large portion of white cells to be destroyed. Longo compares the effect of fasting to removing excess cargo from a plane. This depletion in white blood cells during each fasting cycle triggers stem cell-based regeneration to create new immune system cells. The Longo team discovered that prolonged fasting decreased the enzyme PKA. This effect was previously found to increase longevity in simple organisms. It has also been linked to other research on the regulation of stem cells self-renewal, and pluripotency, which is the ability for a cell to become many different types of cell. Long-term fasting also reduced levels of IGF-1. This growth hormone has been linked by Longo and other researchers to aging, cancer, and tumor progression.

The results in mice provide the first natural evidence that stem cells can be used to trigger regeneration of an organ or system.
