The Rejuvenation of Old Mice by Diluting Blood Plasma
In 2005, Drs. Irina Conboy and Michael Conboy demonstrated that by joining the circulatory system of old and young mice in a parabiosis procedure, they could rejuvenate old tissues and reverse certain aspects of aging.
After this discovery, researchers concluded that something in young blood was able rejuvenate aged animals. Various companies are now trying to discover what it is. Recently, we reported that Elixir – a proprietary blend of pro-youthful elements normally found in younger blood – was able to reduce the epigenetic age in old rats.
The question remains, however: Was the rejuvenation due to the presence of beneficial factors in young blood or was it more of a case where the harmful elements present in older blood were diluted?
