Researchers identify key gene responsible for cellular rejuvenation.

Researchers Solve Antiaging Mysteries – Identify the Gene Responsible for Cellular Aging

The cellular reprogramming technique can reverse aging, which leads to a decline of the activity and function of mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSCs). Scientists have known this for some time. What they hadn’t figured out was which molecular mechanism is responsible for the reversal. This mystery has been solved by a study published today in STEM CELLS. This study not only provides insights into MSC aging, associated diseases and pharmacological approaches to reverse or reduce the aging process but also enhances our knowledge of MSC aging.

Researchers at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, used cellular reprogramming, a common method to reverse cell ageing, to create genetically identical models of young and old cells for this study. While agreeing with prior findings on MSC rejuvenation through cellular reprogramming. Our study provides insight into how reprogrammed MSCs can be regulated molecularly in order to alleviate the cellular hallmarks of ageing.
