Research Funded to the tune of PS3 Million for Technology that Could Cure Heart Failure
The British Heart Foundation will fund eight cutting-edge projects on heart failure this year. Money raised by the London Marathon is expected to provide millions of pounds in funding.
Longevity. Technology: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), which kill an estimated 17,9 million people each year, are the leading killers in the world. The shortage of organs has shifted the focus to regenerative medicine, which involves getting the heart itself to repair. BHF plans to fund eight projects that will all aim to find ways to cure heart disease. BHF made a smart decision to showcase this regenerative science through an impressive set of images. These images show the Foundation’s desire not only to alleviate the symptoms of heart failure or extend the lives of patients, but also to cure heart diseases by regenerating or replacing damaged tissues and cells.
Professor Metin Adkiran, BHF’s Associate Medical Director said: \”Heart Failure is a debilitating disease that affects almost 1,000,000 people in the UK.\” BHF-funded research is leading the way in treatments that give heart failure patients a longer and healthier life, but there’s no cure. Regenerative medicine is the only hope.
