Scientists reverse the aging process in rat stem cells
A new study published in Nature today reveals that brain stem cell dysfunction is caused by increasing stiffness of the brain as we age. It also demonstrates how to restore older stem cells back to a healthier, younger state.
The findings have a wide-ranging impact on how we understand ageing and how we can develop treatments for age-related diseases of the brain.
As we age, our muscles and joints become stiffer, which makes everyday movement more difficult. The same holds true for our brains. Age-related stiffening of the brain has a major impact on brain stem cells.
