Reviewing Age-Related Gut microbiome changes
Recent research has looked at the changes in microbiome that are caused by age, especially in terms of bacterial populations.
The gut microbiome: a detailed look
This publication includes multiple graphs which track the age-related changes in various bacterial populations of the gut. The graphs reveal a similar trend: as people age, the number of bacteria species in their gut increases. However, this decreases significantly when they reach extreme old age. These charts show that groups 1-5 are made up of different ages of children. Group 6 is composed of people aged between 19 and 29. Each group after this one is 10 years older, ending with Group 14, which contains 99-110-year olds.
