Rewinding the Clock: Transplanting a Gene Common in Centenarians Could Reverse the Heart’s Age

Transplanting a gene common in centenarians could rewind the heart’s age

The ageing process is inevitable, but for some people, the right genes make it possible to enjoy our later years in relative comfort.

Researchers in Italy discovered something very special about people living well beyond 90 years of age: They have a variant of a gene known as BPIFB4 which protects the heart from cardiovascular damage.

Scientists have shown that introducing a mutated gene to older mice can reverse the biological heart aging markers by more than 10 years.
