Swiss Firm RigiTech Delivers Drones Without Landing or Takeoff
The maintenance of wind turbines is a vital but often unnoticed task. Drones are here to spice up the scene.
RigiTech, a Swiss drone operator and manufacturer, has some of the largest beyond visual line-of-sight (BVLOS), flight authorizations available in the industry. It just completed an important test of its Eiger Delivery System, flying spare parts from the Anholt Offshore Wind Farm located 20 sm (17 nm), off the coasts of Denmark. There’s one catch: the drones did not need to land.
RigiTech has successfully tested its prototype precision-dropping system. This autonomous system releases cargo when it detects that the drone is at the destination. This is a major breakthrough for offshore wind turbines that do not typically have landing pads.
