Ira Pastor Comments
Globally, we will spend over $7 trillion on healthcare in 2019. One trillion dollars goes to pharmaceuticals, 350 billion to medical equipment, 200 billion to new R&D in life sciences, etc.
It’s easy to forget the extent of consolidation in different healthcare segments. The 10 biggest pharmaceutical companies in the world control 60% of this trillion-dollar market. In the United States, eight insurance companies control more than 50% of individual patient coverage. In 43 countries (which account for about 3/4 of the world’s population), patients are only allowed to see their primary care physician for 5-10 minutes. We know how it feels to be a patient in a system that makes you feel like an outsider.
On this show, we usually discuss the future and the incredible technologies and products that are coming out for dramatic things such as complex regeneration and disease reversion. We also talk about how individuals and patients can take back control and not be an afterthought.
Robin Farmanfarmaian is our guest today. She knows a great deal about this subject. Robin Farmanfarmaian is a medical futureist, an entrepreneur, best-selling author and professional speaker. She is interested in the future of integrated healthcare, the role of the patient and the impact of technology on our interactions with doctors and medical facilities.
