In the future, robots may become vital caregivers. New technologies are constantly being developed to improve the quality-of-life for the aging population of the world and those with disabilities.

A press release explains that Tapomayukh Battacharjee, a scientist at Cornell University, is working on a robotic arm for people with spinal cord injuries.

Robots as extensions of the human body Bhattacharjee is an assistant professor in computer science at Cornell. He believes robots can transform the caregiving process and that one of the most important areas they can help with is eating.

The National Science Foundation’s National Robotics Initiative recently awarded the roboticist a grant of $1.5 million over four years to assist him and EmPRISE Lab in developing caregiving robots for people with disabilities.
