A fish swimming alone will tend to be cautious and avoid the robotic fish impersonator, but a school of fish is more likely to accept it as their own and even abandon the other fish to follow it.

These are the conclusions of engineers at Peking University and China Agricultural University, who built a realistic koi robot and tested it in a tank alongside real fish.
