Scientists reverse age related vision loss and eye damage caused by glaucoma
Scientists at Harvard Medical School have restored the vision of mice by reversing the clock and restoring youthful gene function to aged retinal cells.
The team’s research, published in Nature on Dec. 2, is the first to demonstrate that it might be possible to safely reprogram tissues such as nerve cells of an eye to an older age.
Researchers were able to reverse vision loss in animals suffering from a condition that mimicked human glaucoma. Glaucoma is a major cause of blindness worldwide.
