Can drugs slow down aging? Scientists are focusing on drugs that treat frailty, age-related diseases and other symptoms.
Such drugs may face an uphill battle, as aging isn’t considered a medical condition. The FDA is unlikely to approve drugs for their anti-aging properties or for new uses of licensed drugs. Pharmaceutical companies would also be unlikely to create drugs solely for this purpose.
Geroscientists claim that drugs that could delay or prevent debilitating illnesses would increase longevity and have enormous benefits for society.
