Senolytics for Glaucoma Treatment
According to new research, senolytics, which remove harmful cells called senescents that accumulate with age, could be an effective treatment for glaucoma. Glaucoma is a common condition caused by aging that can lead to vision loss.
Inflammation can be beneficial in the short-term, since it stimulates tissue repair and regeneration, and helps the immune system defend itself against invaders.
The chronic, smoldering low-grade inflammation, which occurs with age, can be extremely harmful. Researchers have identified a number of sources for this \”inflammaging,\” including (but not limited to), dysfunctional immune cells and cell debris. They also point to disruptions in the gut microbiome as well as senescent or aging cells. We are worried about this latter issue today after a recent study on senescent cell and glaucoma.
