Review of Cellular Senescence and Senolytics
We would like to share with you a recent publication on senolytics. These are drugs and therapies that target non-dividing harmful cells that resist programmed cell death, also known as apoptosis.
As we age, these cells accumulate in our bodies and cause chronic inflammation, also known as \”inflammaging\”. They also reduce tissue regeneration and repair, which can lead to age-related diseases.
To deal with these problematic cells, one way is to cause them to self destruct. This will remove them and any inflammation they may cause. The discovery of a new class known as senolytics a few decades ago has sparked heightened interest in their development to combat age-related illnesses.
