Sleep-Disordered breathing: A potential accelerant of aging

Sleep-Disordered breathing and Accelerated Ageing

SAN ANTONIO – Sleep disordered breathing and its disruption of nightly sleep speed up the aging processes, preliminary research suggests.

SDB, a disorder common in older people, causes oxidative damage and inflammation. It is also associated with a number of age-related diseases. It has not been studied well in relation to epigenetic ageing.

Medscape Medical News reported that Xiaoyu Li of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts said, \”To our knowledge this is the first empirical research linking sleep-disordered breath with epigenetic aging acceleration.\”
