Stanford-led research finds that stem cells can rejuvenate old human cells
Researchers at Stanford University School of Medicine have found that old human cells can be restored to a youthful, vigorous state by expressing a panel of embryonic proteins for a short time.
Researchers also discovered that mice aged over 60 years old regained their youthful strength when their muscle stem cells received the rejuvenating treatment.
iPS (induced pluripotent cells) cells are created by transforming adult cells into Yamanaka factors. The induced pluripotent cells are capable of becoming any cell type in the body. They are important for regenerative medicine, drug discovery and other fields.
