Stanford Team Discovers Culprit for Rejuvenating Aged Mouse Brains

Reversing Cognitive Decline

Stanford researchers, led by Professor Wyss Coray, set out to discover which genes are linked to age-related decline in cognitive function. The researchers were not only able to find the culprit but also rejuvenate the aged mouse brains.

Finding the causes of cognitive decline

The brain and spinal chord are home to microglia, which are immune cells. These cells are immune cells that mediate responses in the central nerve system. They act similarly to macrophages and clear cellular debris and dead neuronal tissue from nervous tissues through phagocytosis.
