Hydrogel containing stem cells boosts healing of aged muscles
As we age, our cells lose their ability to self-heal. If new research from Georgia Tech is successful, it may be possible to treat at least part of this problem in the near term. Researchers developed a hydrogel containing muscle stem cells. By injecting it near an injury site, they can begin to repair the muscle. The technique, according to the team, could be used for treating muscle injuries in elderly people and those with muscular dystrophy.
