A new dental procedure could eliminate tooth loss
Most people will experience tooth loss at some stage in their lives. By the age of 70, 26% of adults have lost their permanent teeth. Dental implants are not able to \”remodel\”, and dentures can be uncomfortable.
Some people place their hopes in stem cell technology for all of these reasons. Despite the controversy surrounding the new medical methods, such as the destruction and use of human embryos and the use of stem cells for research purposes, some of the research can change lives.
The Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Laboratory at Columbia University is testing a new technique that could eliminate \”tooth loss\”. The cluster is convinced that they must find a way to take control of the stem cells in the body, migrate them to a three-dimensional natural material scaffold and then insert it into a patient’s oral cavity.
