Human Trial Suggests Clearing Plaques Slows Mental Decline
It was not clear until now whether drugs that remove amyloid from the brain, which builds up in old age and is associated with diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, had any effect on cognitive decline.
The results of previous studies were inconclusive because the study designs and data are difficult to interpret, among other factors that cloud the waters. The 15th International Conference on Alzheimer’s Diseases and Parkinson’s Diseases was held from March 10-14th (virtually, of course), during which Dr. Mark Mintun, of Eli Lilly, presented data that at least partially answered the question.
