I entered the community of human life extension not as an existentially frightened young person, a biohacker or as someone obsessed with quantified-self. When I was a teenager, I tracked my sleep and food intake using pencil and paper. I used a pedometer to track my daily steps as a student in college. Fitbit Force was released in 2014 and I have worn a top wearable ever since.

These devices have given me exceptional feedback. I know I gain 1.7 pounds on average before each menstrual period, and I lose this weight about a week before the cycle is over. I know I need to sleep for seven hours and forty minutes every night in order to feel rested. If I do at least 40 minutes cardio in one day, my resting heart beat is two or three beats lower than the average. This knowledge of my body allows me to be in the best position to determine if anything is wrong and if I should change my lifestyle in order to move my metrics in a positive direction.
