Study shows that older people can improve their episodic memory by neurostimulation the cerebellum.
Recent research has shown that non-invasive stimulation to the right cerebellum improved episodic memory in elderly healthy individuals. This was attained at the conclusion of a 12-day program of neurostimulation, as well as at the 4-month follow-up.
The steadily increasing average life expectancy presents significant challenges for individuals, families and societies in multiple dimensions. By 2050, one in six people will be older than 65. The study of aging, its relationship with cognitive decline, neurological diseases, and general frailty, is therefore becoming more important.
It has therefore been an important goal of neurosciences to understand the relationship between aging and episodic memory and to develop interventions that mitigate the age-related declines in our ability remember past personal events (episodic memories).
