The gut microbiome is not the best predictor of aging. Instead, skin and mouth biomarkers are more accurate.

Biomarkers in the skin and mouth are more predictive than gut

Lifespan.io

The skin and mouth microbiome are better predictors than the gut microbiome, according to a new study published by mSystems.

The study is very broad

The authors employed a large number of people, which is impressive for a study of this type. A team that included some of the researchers who worked on this study had previously studied the gut microbiome of more than four thousand people in multiple countries. The researchers collected samples of skin, saliva and feces from approximately 2,000, 2,500, and 4,500 individuals, respectively. This study involved nearly 9,000 participants, making it the largest microbiome research to date. The team used \”random forests\” machine learning to determine which microbiota are and are not predictive of age.
