The Morphobot M4 robot has the ability to fly, roll, walk and more.

New bioinspired robot that flies, rolls and walks
The newly-created real-life Transformer can reconfigure its body in order to achieve eight different types of movement. It also has the ability to autonomously assess its environment to select the most efficient combination of movements to maneuver.

The robot can \”walk\” using its wheels as feet, roll up steep slopes with two wheels and use two rotors, tumble and more.

Mory Gharib, Ph.D. (Ph.D. ’83), the Hans W. Liepmann Professor of Aeronautics and Bioinspired Engineering at Caltech as well as the director of the Center for Autonomous Systems and Technologies (CAST) where the robot was developed, believes that a robot with this broad range of capabilities could be used in a variety of applications from transporting injured people to hospitals to exploring other planets. The robot was developed by D. ’83, the Hans W. Liepmann professor of Aeronautics and Bioinspired Engineering and the director of Caltech’s Center for Autonomous Systems and Technologies.
