Why life expectancy could rise significantly in the near future
It’s not just the extra candles that make the cake look more beautiful. Ageing is a drag. The cake and gifts are great every year, but losing your health and independence doesn’t make for a very good birthday gift. What did I get for my birthday this year? (I got sarcopenia, and hearing loss! Just what I did not want!)
It’s surprising that people don’t talk much about aging. They only grumble and make jokes. It’s usually to complain about aches and discomforts that slowly appear with age. \”Bright-eyed, bushy-tailed\”, becomes \”cloudy-eyed, and with a aching back\”.
The serious part of aging is the loss of independence, the diseases of old age that slowly rob us our quality of living before killing us. Alzheimer’s, heart disease, frailty, and cancer are all serious issues.
