Threads is Meta’s twitter competitor now live
Meta has launched a new application to take on Twitter. Instagram announced today the launch of Threads, its text-based social network app. Threads allows Instagram users authenticate using their existing credentials to post short updates. These include text up to 500 character, links, photos, and videos up until 5 minutes.
Threads was launched on iOS and Android devices in 100 countries. However, it is not available in the EU due to privacy concerns. Logging in using Instagram credentials will allow users to keep their usernames and verification status. But Threads profiles can also be customized separately.
MoneyControl first reported the app’s existence in March, and Platformer confirmed it later. Meta presented the app in June to all employees at a company meeting. More leaks revealed more information about the app, including its target audience of celebrities, artists and influencers, as well as its planned features.
