Tokyo Invests $1bn in Research in Cyborg Technology and Waste Elimination

Tokyo to invest $1bn in cyborgs and waste elimination

Nikkei reports that the Japanese government is aiming to invest in 25 different areas. These include cyborg technology, which can restore bodily functions lost due to ageing, as well as technology for removing industrial wastes from the Earth.

Tokyo will invite proposals for research in these areas, and will choose those it supports for up to 10 years. The budget for the first 5 years will be 100 billion yen (921 million dollars).

The program’s goal is to attract researchers from Japan and overseas by showing Tokyo’s passion for promoting ambitious scientific endeavors to address major issues such as the declining birthrate, aging population and to create new industries based on the technologies created.
