Blake Lemoine, a former Google employee, was fired last summer after violating its confidentiality policy. He published transcripts from several conversations with LaMDA, a large language model that he created for the company and which forms the artificial intelligence core of Google’s new search engine assistant Bard.

Lemoine, at the Washington Post, said that LaMDA was like \”a 7 or 8-year old kid that knows physics.\” He believed that the technology had sentience, and urged Google to treat it with the same care as a \”sweet child who wants to make the world a better place for us all.\”
