Transhumanism, a religion for our postmodern times

Transhumanism – A religion for postmodern times

We are witnesses to the birth of a brand new religion. It’s not a theistic faith. It is not a theistic religion.

In addition, unlike the orthodox Christian and Judaic belief that humans are composed of both a material body and an immaterial soul, and that they both matter, adherents to the new faith believe that the mind is what matters, and is ultimately reducible into chemical and electrical interactions. In fact, unlike Christianity’s belief in an actual Heaven, or Buddhism’s concept of the world being illusion, the new religion insists that physical reality is all there is.

Nihilism is the result of such thinking. The new religion offers hope to its adherents, leaving behind the materialistic philosophy of old. The new faith, which is a postmodern take on the faith’s promise to eternal life, offers the possibility of salvation through radical life-extension achieved by technological means. The new religion, \”transhumanism,\” is a favorite among Silicon Valley’s nouveau riche and university philosophers. It is also popular among bioethicists, futurists, and those who seek the comforts of faith, without the associated responsibilities such as following dogma or asking for forgiveness. Transhumanism truly is a religion of our postmodern age.
