As we age, our bodies and hearts change. Heart disease treatment may also need to evolve.
According to a new American Heart Association statement, published today in its flagship peer-reviewed journal Circulation, the age-related changes that occur in heart attacks, heart disease, and general health must be taken into consideration.
This new statement \”Management of acute cardiac syndrome (ACS) in older adult populations\” highlights recent evidence that can help clinicians provide better care to patients over 75. The statement states that 30-40% people who are hospitalized for ACS have a 75-year-old age or older. Heart attack and unstable Angina (heart-related pain) are included in ACS.
This statement is a revision of the 2007 American Heart Association Statement on treatment of heart attacks among the elderly.
