A new study suggests a way to reverse aging
Rejuvenating the nuclear membrane is a new way to combat the aging process.
New discoveries about the effects on our cells of aging could help doctors cure or prevent metabolic diseases such as diabetes and fatty liver, and even reverse the clock.
According to a new study from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, wrinkling of the nucleus of our cells — the compartment that contains our DNA — may cause fatty liver and other undesirable effects of aging. Researchers at UVA found that wrinkles in our cells’ nuclei prevent our genes from working properly.
No wrinkle cream exists for nuclear membranes. But there’s a tantalizing option: we could use viruses to smooth out the membranes and restore cells to their youthful function.
