Uncovering the hidden signal: A blood biomarker that predicts dementia risk decades in advance

The blood-borne signal that predicts dementia risk decades in advance

Scientists have found a blood biomarker which can predict dementia years before it occurs.

Data on 10,981 people collected over 25 years by the National Institute on Aging in the US and other institutions around the world was examined by a team of researchers from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, University of Texas, National Institute on Aging as well as the University of Texas.

Researchers analyzed in particular the proteomes of these individuals. This is the entire set of proteins that are expressed within a body and drive all sorts of biological processes, from cell communication to hormonal levels.
