Unlocking Ant Fertility: Exploring the Potential of Human Reproductive Aging solutions

Mexican Scientist asks what can ants tell us about human fertility

Ingrid Fetter Pruneda, a Mexican biologist, studies the longevity and fertility of ants to help develop strategies that can be used to prevent, slow down or reverse the aging process in female reproductive organs in other animals or humans.

Fetter-Pruneda is an Assistant Professor of Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. She says that most animals trade off between fertility and longevity, but ants are unique in the fact that queens live a long time and are fertile while workers have a short lifespan and are sterile.

Fetter-Pruneda: \”I’m trying to figure out what cellular and molecular mechanism allows queens to stay fertile for their relatively long life.\” \”Many molecular paths are conserved in many species and new discoveries could help direct the research in other organisms.\”
