Ageing Well – Aubrey de Grey PhD, Co-founder SENS Research Foundation, Taking the Fight against An… — Youtube
Aubrey de Grey Ph.D. and Chief Science Officer/Cofounder of SENS Research Foundation discuss his fascination with ageing and his ongoing efforts in changing the way we treat and think about age-related diseases. Dr. de Grey, a biomedical geriatrician and innovator of the SENS platform, is the founder and chief scientist officer at SENS Research Foundation. He is a Fellow of both the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) and the American Aging Association. He holds a Ph.D. from the prestigious University of Cambridge in Biology. Dr. de Grey says that aging is our greatest medical challenge because it causes us the most pain. He discusses the various excuses that are given as reason to simply disregard aging as a field in need of greater research, from the standard, ‘everything ages, just accept it,’ to the more philosophical–‘death, by its existence, gives meaning to life,’ and the social excuse–‘treating aging in a new way would only create new problems that could be much worse.’ But according to Dr. de Gray, not a single excuse holds up, all fall to the slightest scrutiny when really considered. Dr. de Grey says that we must learn from the past to develop and implement therapies to prevent the health issues of an ageing population. SENS Research Foundation aims to promote and develop innovative therapies that could cure or even prevent diseases and disabilities associated with aging. This is done by repairing the damage built up in our bodies. Dr. de Grey concludes by explaining cell therapy, damage, loss cells, and processes required to repair. The doctor discusses in detail the use of stem cells for repairing damage, replacing lost cells, and so on.
