Telomeres and the Aging Process: What they Tell us
Does aging have to be accepted as a normal process?
A philosopher would answer yes. Most doctors agree that cells eventually reach the point where they cannot divide anymore and die or enter senescence. Scientists believe that the \”Hayflick Limit\” is the limit beyond which no one will live. Some people may also believe that dying and aging is a positive thing. They might say that the world has already become overcrowded, we can’t handle our aging population, life is finite, all good things have to come to an ending.
There’s an increasing number of people, including gerontologists and biologists as well as engineers, who believe that aging can be treated. It is important to understand that aging does not have to be an unchangeable process.
