Is there a reset button for aging?
Vittorio Sebastiano has a part-time job that involves babysitting a few millions stem cells. The Stanford University research professor of reproductive biologie keeps the cells moist and warm deep within the Lorry I. Lokey stem cell Research Building, which is one of the largest stem cell facilities in the country. There, he’s joined by a team of researchers with different goals. His research program is ambitious. He wants to reverse the aging process in humans.
Stem cells can be compared to Gary Oldman. Stem cells can reprogram their own function to perform that of any other cell type. They play an important role in the early stages of development. This functional reprogramming usually comes with a reset of the age to zero. Sebastiano believes that if he is able to separate the different types of reprogramming he will be able to open up an entirely new type of anti-aging therapy. Nautilus caught him up last month.
