Can we live longer? Scientist discovers telomeres
Researchers have discovered the new structure of DNA telomeric with the help of a tiny magnet and physics. Telomeres can be viewed as the key to a longer life. They protect the genes but they get shorter every time a cell divides. The cell will die if they get too short. This new discovery will allow us to better understand disease and aging.
When DNA is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind isn’t Physics. John van Noort, a scientist at the Leiden Institute of Physics LION (formerly the Leiden Institute of Physics), is one of those scientists who discovered the new structure of DNA. Biophysicist John van Noort uses physics methods for his biological experiments. The Nanyan Technological University, Singapore, was also interested in this. He was asked to assist in the study of DNA structure and telomeres. The results have been published in Nature.
