Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) have engineered molecules which act as \”cellular adhesives\” and allow them to control how cells bond together. According to a press statement, this is an important step towards regenerative medicine’s long-term goals of creating new organs and tissues.

The body naturally contains adhesive molecules that keep tens or hundreds of trillions cells in organized patterns. They help to build neural networks, form structures and guide immune cells towards specific parts of the body. Adhesion makes it easier for cells to communicate and maintain the body as a self-regulating unit.
