Rapamycin is currently the most promising anti-aging intervention.
Scientists from Ayerst, now Pfizer, discovered a novel chemical called rapamycin in bacteria in Chile’s Rapa Nui (Easter Island). FDA approved rapamycin in 1999 for the prevention acute rejection of kidney transplants. Rapamycin was not known at the time that it would be the most powerful anti-aging drug humans have today.
This is part one of a series of two articles on rapamycin.
Rapamycin’s profound effect on lifespan was observed first in yeast cells and then confirmed in all model organisms tested, including fruit flies and mice.
