Researchers at Pitt discover a key genetic step that can help cancer live forever.
Scientists from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine discovered a missing piece of the puzzle in the mystery of melanoma tumours controlling their mortality.
The team of Jonathan Alder Ph.D., and their paper, published this week in Science, describe the combination of genetic changes that tumors use for explosive growth, and to prevent themselves from dying. This discovery could revolutionize the way oncologists treat and understand melanoma.
Alder, assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine, Pitt School of Medicine, said: \”We did something which was, in essence, evident based on prior basic research and linked back to something happening in patients.\”
