Scientists discover toolkit for repair of DNA damage
Scientists developed a method for repairing damaged genetic material on March 9, according to UPI. This breakthrough, which was published in Nature Communications this week, could pave new ways to treat cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
Accumulation of DNA damage causes aging, cancer, and neurological disorders like motor neuron, or ALS.
Scientists have been struggling to find ways to repair such damage. Researchers have found a new enzyme called TEX264 which can be combined with other enzymes in order to destroy toxic proteins that bind DNA and cause damage.
