Scientists Completely Sequenced A Human Chromosome For The First time
In 2003, the human genome was sequenced for the first time. The human genome was first sequenced. Since then, technological advances have allowed tweaks, additions and adjustments to the human genome, making it the most accurate vertebrate genome sequenced.
Some gaps still remain, including the human chromosomes. There are some gaps left in the sequences, even though we have a good understanding of them. Now, for the first time, geneticists have closed some of those gaps, giving us the first complete, gap-free, end-to-end (or telomere-to-telomere) sequence of a human X chromosome.
This achievement was made possible by a technique called nanopore sequence, which allows for ultra-long reads of DNA strands. It also provides a more sequential and complete assembly.
