Unveiling Apoptosis Molecular Mechanism: Early Stages in Programmed Cell Death, and Its Role in Cancer Prevention

The cellular process that prevents cancer from developing is revealed

Researchers have for first time characterized the molecular mechanisms of the early stages in programmed cell death, or apoptosis. This process plays a critical role in the prevention and treatment of cancer.

Dr Luke Clifton, at the Science and Technology Facilities Council ISIS Neutron and Muon Source in Oxfordshire, led the study that was published in Science Advances today (2 June). They collaborated with partners from the University of Umea in Sweden and European Spallation Source.

This is the latest in a long line of collaborations between this team and other researchers to investigate the cellular proteins that are responsible for apoptosis.
