William Shatner is 89 today. He played Captain James Tiberius Kirk, the iconic character in Star Trek: The Original Series, and seven Star Trek movies.
William Shatner was born in Montreal, Quebec on March 22,1931. He began his career in New York City and Stratford as a Shakespearean actor in the early 1950s. Shatner’s first film role was in The Butler’s Night Off in 1951, but his prominence as a filmmaker didn’t come until 1958, when he played Alexey Karamazov (a literary adaptation by Fyodor Dostoyevsky) in The Brothers Karamazov. In the same period, he starred as Jim Whitely, an episode from the third season, of the television show Alfred Hitchcock Presents. William Shatner returned to Broadway in 1959 as Lomax, in The World of Suzie Wong. His outstanding performance received high praise from critics and earned him a greater reputation in the theatre and film communities.
