Interview with Yuri Deigin, Youthereum Genetics
We had the chance to interview Yuri Deigin at the Undoing Aging conference 2019. His company develops therapies focusing on OSKM – the Yamanaka factor known for transforming cells back to a pluripotent condition. The company hopes that by partially reprogramming the cells with a single component from OSKM, Oct4, it can remove epigenetic ageing while still allowing cells to retain their normal function.
Are epigenetic changes a result or cause of aging?
This question is so complex that it requires a lot of different answers. There are changes that have consequences. Some epigenetics is a consequence of aging. For example, epigenetic drift. As cells divide, the methylation appears to be diluted.
